After A While - Veronica A. Shoffstall

i never realised this poem on isabelle's blog; i love it.

After A While - Veronica A. Shoffstall
After a while you learn
the subtle difference between
holding a hand and chaining a soul
and you learn
that love doesnt mean leaning
and company doesnt mean security
And you begin to learn
that kisses arent contracts
and presents arent promises
and you begin to accept your defeats
with your head up and your eyes ahead
with the grace of a woman, not the grief of a child
and you learnto build all you roads on today
because tomorrows ground is
too uncertain for plans
and futures have a way of falling down in mid-flight.
After a while you learn
that even sunshine burns
if you get too much
so you plant your own garden
and decorate your own soul
instead of waiting for someone
to bring you flowers
And you learn that you really can endure
you really are strong
you really do have worth
and you learn and you learn
with every good-bye, you learn
With this poem, i realised that i chained his soul to mine and with this poem i knew i had done the right thing by setting him free. With this poem, i know i can depend on others, but not forever nor not any time that i want them to. With this poem i realise with every obstacle i encounter, i endure, i overcome, i grow. i despair, i fall, i sink but i will stay afloat.
and with every goodbye, i learn.
